Well, we're finally making the BIG move! Fair warning, there may be a little chaos in the week ahead, but it will definitely be worth it come the middle of March. The first big change is the new hours...Mondays and Wednesdays 3:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays 9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. I'm such a creature of habit even this little change is throwing me off! In addition, starting Monday, March 7th you will find the Fort Hunter Free Library opened at the new location - 167 Fort Hunter Road, Amsterdam, NY. It is housed in what was once the Town of Florida Justice Court - you'll find me. Our phone number will remain 518)829-7248, so please call if you need directions. As with anything, though there have been some "roadblocks" we are plowing forward and I'm really excited about how the new space is shaping up. Watch for upcoming photos...Hope to see you there!

We have sad news for our loyal patrons and fellow book lovers...in December of 2011, our lease will expire here at the Fort Hunter Fire House. We have been informed by the Fort Hunter Fire Commissioners that this space will no longer be made available to us. We are devastated at the prospect of our Library being homeless! If you have any suggestions or information that will lead to establishing a new location for us - PLEASE CONTACT - the President of the Board of Trustees, Barbara Lampkin at 829-7391 or Library Director, Tina Shave at 829-7248. We face the very real possibility of closure, and what a tragedy that would be after over 80 years of serving this community.

The Spiderwick Chronicles

Looking forward to the theatrical release of "The Spiderwick Chronicles" on February 14th? It looks like it's going to be great, doesn't it? Very exciting, but before you see the movie, why don't you read the books? "The Spiderwick Chronicles", a collection of five books by Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi, is a magical, fictional account of the unseen world around us. The illustrations are incredible and the stories are fast-paced and will surely capture your imagination from the very first glance. The previews and trailers make for serious anticipation of the upcoming movie version, but you have time to stop in at your local library and check them out from the junior fiction section...there's some really wonderful stuff there! You don't want to miss "The Spiderwick Chronicles" - coming to theaters near you on February 14th and already available at your local library.

Our Magician's Visit...

Was magical! The mysterious Professor Arcane and his sidekick, Watson the "Missing Bunny", came and delighted our youngsters once again. We enjoyed his performance very much. We were so good at finding all of the clues, we've decided that if he ever needs help solving any other mysteries that he should probably just call on us here in Fort Hunter right away to help him out.

Children of the Fort Hunter Free Library will help magician Ron Cain solve "the Case of the Missing Bunny" this Wednesday. The magic show, set for 4:00 p.m., July 25, highlights this year's state reading program theme, "Get a Clue @ Your Library". Appearing as the mysterious Professor Arcane, Cain trades his top hat for a Sherlock Holmes cap when Watson the Magic Bunny disappears. Then members of the audience become magical detectives to track down Watson. Young readers find clues that lead to a variety of exciting magical illusions. Throughout the show, the Camillus magician stresses the value of reading and the importance of visiting your local Library.

Thanks to all of our loyal book lovers who look for us every year at the Canal Days Festival in Fort Hunter. This Annual Book Sale is a wonderful fundraiser for us, and these extra dollars will be put to good use when it comes to new book shopping! What to buy, what to buy? Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows for sure...stop by the Library yourself and discover what other reading delights we have in store.

Thank you to the Montgomery County Public Health Office - the Children with Special Needs Coordinator, Angela B. Stuart, stopped at the Library with a very generous book donation. Eighteen books in total, with titles like "Babies with Down Syndrome: A New Parents Guide", and "Choices in Deafness: A Parents' Guide to Communication Options", and "Special Kids Need Special Parents". That's just to name a few...they have shared a wonderful wealth of information and support with us with this donation and we'd like to share this knowledge with you. Trooper Wittner is the Resource Officer at Fonda-Fultonville Central School and has agreed to come visit our Library to talk about what it takes to be a State Trooper and we're even going to help him solve a mystery!
